Architect receives design awards

November 28, 2014 Poughkeepsie Journal Article - Architect receives design awards — Daniel Contelmo Architects, Poughkeepsie, recently won several categories in Qualified Remodeler's 2014 Master Design Awards. Their Dutchess County Carriage House design won "Best in Show" as well as "Gold" for Detached Structure. They also won silver awards in the categories of Outdoor Living, Whole House Renovation and Finished Basement.

The firm was recognized at an awards dinner in Baltimore along with architects and firms nationwide. The winning designs are featured in the October issue of Qualified Remodeler.

Daniel Contelmo is the principal of Daniel Contelmo Architects, one of the premier residential firms in the Hudson Valley.

Architect uses online community to promote firm

Read Poughkeepsie Journal Article Daniel Contelmo hadn’t thought about joining an online community to boost his company’s business. Then a client gave the registered architect a different perspective.

“Every time she wanted to describe something she wanted on her house, she would thumb through her iPad and show me photos,” said Contelmo, principal architect of Daniel Contelmo Architects in Poughkeepsie. “I asked what she was looking at and she said it was Houzz,” a leading online platform for home remodeling and design.

He joined the online community, creating a company profile with photos of his projects and redesigned his company’s website, making it easier for existing and prospective clients to see his work and communicate with him.

Within a few months, emails and phone calls from potential clients across the country picked up, with some more suitable than others. He also heard from industry vendors.

“I was speaking with designers and potential clients and, frankly, I was getting a lot of positive feedback from the photos everyone was seeing and it just encouraged me to improve my site and the photos,” Contelmo said.

In fact, in the year-and-a-half since Contelmo joined Houzz for free, his firm has won its “best of” award in 2013 and 2014 per member ratings and is one of the highest ranked architects on the site. Moreover, one of the firm’s bathrooms is a top 10 design, appearing in more than 100,000 member ideabooks.

Daniel Contelmo Architects created a transformation of a colonial home in Westchester County, New York.  The exterior of this renovation is featured in Better Homes and Gardens. The entire interior of the home was also renovated.

What's new in the mid-Hudson Valley business scene Architectural firm wins top award

Architectural firm wins award — Daniel Contelmo Architects, Poughkeepsie, was awarded Best of Houzz 2014 by Houzz.com, an online platform for residential design and construction. The firm was chosen as one of the top design professionals by the more than 16 million monthly users that comprise the Houzz community.

The award was given in two categories: customer satisfaction and design, based on member ratings. The local firm won in both categories.

Daniel Contelmo has been designing custom residential homes, additions and renovations for more than 25 years. He has contributed to several publications, trade magazines, books and HGTV and will appear in the spring issue of Outdoor Home magazine.
